Summer Programs
10-Week Programs to Boost Your Child’s Writing
Available June, July, and August 2024
If you’re looking for a way for your child to improve their writing over the summer, June Writers has three excellent new options. No need to enroll in a special writing summer camp. June Writers is compatible with your child’s already busy summer schedule. Watch our lesson videos and complete practices in the comfort of your own home before or after camp. We will assign practices with a due date to ensure your child stays on track and gets the most out of their precious summer hours.*
All of our summer programs include:
Custom feedback on your child’s work within 24 hours by highly-trained teachers who specialize in working with extremely bright children
Twice weekly Live Help Hours (digital)
Custom weekly progress reports
Tailored extension practices
* While we will do everything in our power to ensure that your child completes all their assigned work at the best possible level, we cannot guarantee that your child will meet our deadlines or complete all work in a program. Our weekly progress reports will let you know if your child has missed deadlines. Your child has a two-week buffer to complete all their practices (i.e., 12 weeks total to complete the 10-week curriculum); we provide this to account for vacations and illnesses.
Program 1: Grammar & Punctuation Foundations
Complete 10 foundational grammar and punctuation lessons in 10 weeks. Your child will learn:
Foundational sentence grammar
Capitalization conventions
Plural & Possessive conventions
Contraction conventions
Beginning comma conventions
Advanced grammar concepts
Advanced commas conventions
Taming the Fuzzies (complicated verb tenses, the subjunctive, point of view switches, dangling participles, negatives, unnecessary fluff)
Dash, parentheses & ellipses conventions
Colon & semicolon conventions
This program is a fast-paced, in-depth tour of all key grammatical and punctuation issues that your child needs to learn to excel in school and beyond. The first half of the sequence is confined to writing sentences, and the second moves your child into writing longer, analytical and fiction texts. This sequence progresses quickly from simple, foundational concepts and exercises to far more challenging practices of advanced skills. Your child will take quizzes at the end of lessons, giving you clear insight into their level of mastery of the topic.

Identifying the themes & reasoning for those themes in a list of ideas and facts

This program is a fast-paced, in-depth tour of foundational expository and persuasive writing. Our focus will be on argumentation, so students should already have a strong grasp of grammar, punctuation, and other writing mechanics.

Program 3: Workshop your essays
Is your child getting ready for application season or more challenging courses in the year ahead? Sign up for our essay workshop summer boost. In 10 weeks, your child will:
Get one-on-one feedback on their essays (up to 10—supplied by your child)
Receive personalized help on their specific challenges. This may include:
General editing skills
Editing for audience
Editing for content using rhetorical analysis
Editing for words & flow
Specific grammar and punctuation conventions
Etc.
This program is designed for your child to get as much help on their essays as possible. How Our Summer Programs Work
-
Step 1: Log in
When you sign up for one of our summer programs, you’ll be able to log in to our private member area for your program and access lesson videos and other resources. You’ll also get information on how to complete the practices in our SeeSaw classroom beginning on your chosen start date. Your child’s work will be private—visible only to your family and us.
-
Step 2: Complete practices & get feedback
Watch the video lessons and complete the assigned practices by the due date. Our highly-trained master teachers give written (and verbal, as appropriate) feedback on each of your child’s assignments within 24 hours, and will often ask them to edit their work. Your child should complete two to five writing practices a week, depending on the program and specific lesson. Need help? Drop into our twice-weekly digital Live Help Hours as much or as little as you want, or message us through SeeSaw at any time.
-
Step 3: Track your child's weekly progress
In addition to the immediate feedback on their writing assignments, your family will receive weekly progress reports with scores and overall feedback on your child’s work and trajectory. We offer a two-week buffer period (12 weeks total to complete the 10-week curriculum) for your child to complete their work. We offer this buffer to account for vacations and illnesses.
